Ask the Dust

I finally met Fante.

Ask the Dust — he writes simple and straightforward.

Nothing over scribed.

The religious background, was interspersed but intense.

He was so close still to the power of the Catholic Church — it seemed like science fiction, but I know it to be true from my mother’s family.

The feel of LA growing. The lost souls already pouring in.

It was a great read.

I read in but a few hours.

I read another full book, in the silence of my room.

When last I was able to complete a book — I was 43 and hadn’t yet needed readers.

It will be 10 years since that awful year that became my downfall.

I was healthier physically but my brain was shot.

If I can keep reading like this — maybe my ill health will be a bit more bearable.

Tomorrow I endeavor to finish the biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I started in October 2022 and got half way.

When a door closes a window opens? Or something treacle like that.
