I realize today that he died many years ago.

It has been two decades that I haven’t had cable or watched broadcast news. I don’t know the anchors anymore.

Even before I totally eliminated regular broadcasting from my life, I never could tolerate Good Morning America or the Today Show and used to tease my Nana when still alive as she watched her people on the little black and white TV on her kitchen table.

She would sit there with her instant and a ciggie and gasp or cheer at the news of the morning.

I can still see her watching the OJ Simpson Trial in the morning on her oxygen tubes, tiny in her robe and chair. No longer able or with energy to put curlers in her hair.

But the ferocity with which she could discuss that trial or give a talking to her people the reporters on the screen.

With a ‘good on you’ or ‘get with it’ and then tap the TV or point at the screen.

She knew it was silly, but it was her enjoyment.

Even when healthy she had loved her people reporting out to her the morning news. Knew their lives and admired their poise.

The words they use Sophie, so remarkable. Very eloquent they are.

And me being me, would say

They are reading from paperwork and teleprompters Nana. I could do the job if my hair was done and put with a suit on.
