The Blue Shirt

After the zoom interview today I put on my cotton pajama bottoms and my old blue hand me down mens oxford.

It is ancient and worn and frayed.

Smells fresh though it has been years in the drawers.

I have worn it years past tied up with a long white linen skirt, on the boat, on the beach, doing chores, running errands, sleeping.

It is a beautiful perriwinkle blue.

Soft and ancient and beloved.

I feel wholey me in this shirt.

Been with me 26 years.

Through adventure and illness. Sorrow and joy.

I put it on tonight as my other bed tops are in the clean laundry that I have yet to organize.

Looking in the mirror I felt a time traveler.

The heat has gone down. I can hear the crickets.

No drone from AC.

A quiet night.

Sleep soon to come.
