Dear Sophie,

I thought you would like this card. The young girl reminds me of you! Imperial and serene — in full command of her armies!

So — I tried to reach you by telephone today, but the operator told me they had nothing in Emigrant called Big Sky Guest Ranch!

I am in RI until Thursday then heading back to the Island. I have an appointment with Elizabeth on Friday.

Things are pretty sane around here especially with. . .

The writing ends there. I ripped the card in two for unknown reasons and only kept the front half with the picture on it.

It is from my mother, dated 07/18/1994, seemingly writing to me during my summer in Montana at Mountain Sky Ranch in Emigrant.

But I recollect that in the summer of 1994, I moved to Portland Maine to finish college, though now, in doing a quick Google search, I realize my timeline is off. It was in the summer of 1995 that I moved to Maine.

I have a vague recall of talking with my mother about the card and me asking if the girl in the photo really reminded her of me. I was taken aback that she seemed to have a romanticism toward me and would even consider me as pretty as the girl on the card.
